DIY Garlic Beauty Recipes

When you’re not using garlic to fight off vampires this month, you can incorporate it into your beauty regimen! Originally from Asia, this perennial bulb was used in most ancient civilizations as food or medicine. Today, garlic is used all over the world in countless capacities (women even get garlic manicures in the Dominican Republic!). Its roster of health benefits seems to grow by the minute, and we’re happy to say good skin is on that list. Because of garlic’s superior antibacterial properties, it’s the perfect ingredient for your face and body. And while garlic breath isn’t the ideal fragrance for a first date (you can thank the sulfuric enzyme allinaise for that signature scent), you can still take advantage of this rock-star plant in your beauty routine. Here are some of recipes for keeping your complexion clear and fang-free.
BULBOUS BLACKHEAD-BUSTER
  1. 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  2. 1 Tbsp ground oatmeal
  3. 1 drop tea tree oil
  4. 3 drops lemon juice
  5. 1 Tbsp honey Enough to form a paste
Mix all ingredients except honey in a small bowl, then slowly add in the honey until the consistency is viscous. Spread a thin layer of paste onto clean skin. After letting it sit for two minutes, gently exfoliate your face for one minute, then rinse with warm water. Use this mask three times a week to see a visible reduction in blackheads.
TOMATO AND GARLIC PORE PURIFIER
  1. 1 medium-size tomato, mashed Or squeezed in a juicer
  2. 1 clove garlic, mashed
Tomato and garlic both have fantastic antiseptic qualities, making them appropriate ingredients for clogged skin. Combine mashed tomato and garlic, then spread a thin layer onto your face. After 20 minutes, wash your face with lukewarm water and seal your pores with a final splash of cold water.
GARLIC SPOT TREATMENT
  1. 1 clove garlic, raw
  2. Small plastic ziplock bag To store the garlic in
Your newest pimple fighter has been waiting for you in the kitchen all along! You can spot-treat those surprise face-wreckers with this pungent, earthy bulb. Cut into a freshly shelled piece of raw garlic and rub it onto your blemish. You’ll see a reduction in redness and swelling within the day!
