Beauty Detox: This Is Good Fat

Our bodies need even more moisture during the colder months, and we should be eating good fats year-round. This week, celebrity nutritionist Kimberly Snyder brings us a recipe for avocado guacamole. Not only is guacamole delicious, but the avocados it’s made from are packed full of good vitamins and antioxidants, and they’re one of the most perfect beauty fats on the planet. "First of all, fat is very important in your diet," says Kim. "You don’t need a huge amount of it, but you do need the right kind of fats. Your brain is largely composed of fat, and avocados help you absorb your fat-soluble beauty vitamins (such as A, D, E, and K). They also help control your blood sugar levels, so you don't experience drops in energy and start snacking on sugary foods. Avocados are also high in fiber and minerals, including potassium, copper, and iron. They'll help make your skin look beautiful and bright, and provide plenty of moisture."
Avocado Guacamole
  1. 2 medium avocados
  2. Juice of ½ a lemon
  3. 1 medium garlic clove, chopped very finely
  4. ¼ tsp Celtic or Himalayan sea salt
  5. Cayenne pepper, to taste
  6. 1 cup chopped tomatoes
Slice the avocados lengthwise and remove the pits. Scoop out the green avocado flesh and place in a medium-size mixing bowl. Add the lemon juice and mash the avocados with a fork. Make it as smooth as you like, or if you like your guacamole chunky, then don’t mash too much! Add the garlic, sea salt, and cayenne pepper and mix well. Add the chopped tomatoes last and mix well again. Enjoy the guacamole with veggie sticks as a filling afternoon snack. You can also serve the guacamole on top of a large salad.
