Why I Love Blake Lively

Showing off super blonde locks, Blake radiates a summer glow in her Grecian style gown. Glowing skin is her main feature, with creamy pink lipstick and basic eyes playing up her perfect skin.

Opting for a natural look with loose, beachy waves pulled to the side, Blake wears a pink lipstick that contrasts with her sky blue dress. Lined eyes and a sweep of rosy blush add the finishing touch.

For her role in the film Hick, Blake changed her locks from sunny blonde to strawberry red. To enhance her new color she kept her makeup simple with subtle smoky eyes and a pale lipstick. She looked almost like the little mermaid in this aqua green dress.

Stepping out of her usual routine, Blake uses a splash of red lipstick as a bold color accessory. A brown smoky eye offsets the tomato red tone. With her hair pulled back into a ponytail, she allows her lips to become the focus.

A shimmery brown smoky eye, bronzed rosy cheeks and light burgundy lipstick compliment Blake's stunning Lanvin dress and the gigantic, jewel-encrusted winged friend at her neckline.

White Hot Summer Nails

A stark contrast to glowing skin, white nails are a beautiful way to bring out a tan in summer. Make sure you buy a polish that is thick enough to completely cover your nail. A translucent hue just won't look that good.

Bright yellow is a great color to match with your white manicure—try it on your toes!. The sunny shade spells long, hot summer days and just begs you to show off your feet in strappy sandals.

A white dress may not seem like the best choice when your nails are the same color, but matching your nail polish to your outfit is big this season. Plus, there's just something about white on white...

Pretty pastels are also beautiful with white polish. Add a light lilac to your toes or wear a big colorful, chunky ring to show off your clean white manicure.

Neon Colorblock Nail Tutorial

Color-blocking ruled the runway this season at Jil Sander, Gucci, and Prabal Gurung's fashion shows. But don't worry, this hot fashion statement doesn't stop after the first leaves fall—makeup artist Pat McGrath continued the bright trend into autumn with Dior's bold and graphic fall 2011 couture makeup. Keep reading for an easy and fun neon nail tutorial that's less expensive than a trip backstage.

What You'll Need:

  • Base Coat
  • Top Coat
  • 3 Neon Nail Polish Shades
  • Thin Art Store Brush

STEP 1 Base Coat

In broad, even strokes, apply a thin layer of your favorite base coat. Allow 3-5 minutes of drying time before applying your first coat of color.

STEP 2 Base Neon Polish

Apply two coats of your lightest neon shade as the base color. In this case, yellow was the lightest shade (we tried applying the purple and pink and the color-blocking just doesn't work as well—use a pale base and your other shades will pop!). Allow 5-10 minutes drying time.

STEP 3 Start Blocking!

Take one of your neon shades and dot some product onto a disposable plastic base (wrap or foil works perfectly). Use your art brush to pick up the polish and start drawing random geometric outlines on each finger. Use a steady hand to get the line as straight as possible. If you're feeling shaky, you can tape off each section of your nails with removable scotch tape (but you must wait until your base color is totally dry before applying the tape).

STEP 4 Fill In & Repeat

Once you've outlined the first shape on each nail, fill in the color with the nail polish brush for your block of color.
After you've given your nails a little time to dry, take your third neon shade and repeat the same technique on every nail.

STEP 5 Second Coat

After you've given your nails even more time to dry, use your nail polish brush to give your color-blocked geometric shapes an extra boost of pigment.

STEP 6 Top Coat

Since you don't want your colors to bleed, wait a little while before applying the top coat. Once fingers have passed the dry test, seal your cool new design with a shiny top coat. Trendy and modern nails? Check.

The Best Cream Eye Shadows

Creamy eye shadows are a great way to play with shimmer and color in the summertime. The cream formula allows for easy blending and can applied with your fingers, so it's almost as if you're supposed to mess it up! I also love how a light application of cream shadow can open up the eyes and add just the right amount of casual definition in the summer.

1 Clinique Quick Eyes Cream Shadow

This shimmery shadow goes on as easily as a lip gloss and allows for plenty of blending time before it sets on your skin. The wand applicator gives you extra control and is especially handy if you're applying your makeup in a hurry.

2 NARS Duo Cream Shadow

NARS' dedication to color ensures that the two most compatible shades are matched together, just to make it easy for you. Setting cream shadow with powder will help it stay in place if you have oilier skin.

3 Maybelline Eye Studio Color Gleam Cream Shadow

Bright colored eye shadow can seem daunting to some, but a creamy formula makes it easier to experiment. Just remember to wash your hands before applying!

New Cartier Baiser Volé Fragrance

Cartier Baiser Volé

The light and sensuous new fragrance from Cartier is based around one flower-the lily. "When crafting this lily scent, I wanted it to appear very natural and refreshing. I wanted to create the impression that one is inhaling the scent of a bouquet of flowers," says Mathilde Laurent, Cartier's in house perfumer. The scent combines all parts of the lily, the leaves, petals, and pistil, and presents them in a fresh, light summery scent that is reminiscent of a beautiful bunch of-well, lilies

All Natural Headache Soothers (This is for u Alla)

Headaches can completely ruin your day. That deep throbbing pain behind your temples can be caused by many things, from staring at a computer screen for too long to dehydration or even certain foods! To combat these nasty culprits, try these natural products that will help ease the pain that headaches can cause and prevent them from occurring at all!

1 Escents Natural Headache Relief Roll-On

This multi-tasking roll-on combats headaches with a combination of peppermint and lavender oils and also relieves muscle aches and pains and itchiness from rashes, bites and eczema!

2 Badger Headache Soother Balm

This balm comes in a cute tin, is easy to to apply, and contains super-concentrated menthol crystals to give an instant cooling effect. The eucalyptus and peppermint help to calm and relax the muscles in your forehead (which can often be the cause of headaches).

3 EO Peppermint Oil

For a simple easy headache cure, it's sometimes best to just go to the source. Peppermint oil not only provides instant cool to your aching head but helps to relax and calm your nervous system (which is working overtime when a headache flares). For instant pain relief, place a few drops of peppermint oil on a damp washcloth, fold the washcloth in half (you don't want the oil directly on your skin) and place it in the freezer for 15 minutes before applying directly to your forehead.

How To Use Lash Extenders

Applying false lashes every day can be a hassle and can become costly over time. There are plenty of concerns and questions that arise when you apply false lashes, like “Will they stay on?” or “Is this sanitary?” And so many things could potentially go wrong You could accidentally apply too much glue, or pull out some real lashes when removing your falsies. To play it safe, skip the messy glue application and try an eyelash extender instead.
An eyelash extender is actually just like mascara, but tiny little fibers actually cling to your real lashes like little hairs. These fibers make your lashes look fuller, thicker, and longer. It's totally safe to apply, but just remember to look down so nothing falls in your eye.

Summer Beauty To-Do List

Feeling bored? Here are some fun and inspiring beauty ideas to keep you busy this summer.
  1. Practice your makeup! Invite a friend over and practice your makeup skills by copying your favorite looks from a video tutorial or picture.
  2. Score some freebies. Make a wishlist of all the lotions and potions you want and head to your local beauty counter to ask for samples. They can only say no!
  3. Get Healthy. Go for a long walk and when you get back, make a yummy fruit smoothie. Both your body and your skin will thank you for it!
  4. Makeover your work space. Clean up your dresser or makeup table and add pretty bowls, mirrors and a bunch of flowers to make it a girly haven.
  5. Host a manicure party! Invite all of your girlfriends over and ask them to each bring a current favorite nail polish. Then give each other manicures (or pedicures)! Go to Tooma nails salon.
  6. Salvage old lipsticks. Don't throw away a lipstick that's almost run out. Scoop out the rest and mix it with Vaseline in a small clear tub to make a colored lip balm.
  7. Air it out. Hang your pillows, blankets and quilts outside in the sun for a day. The sun will kill any germs and bacteria that can cause breakouts. Plus your linens will smell heavenly at the end of the day!
  8. Take a long bath. Relax, chill out, and unwind. Soak in a long bath infused with essential oils and rose petals. You'll feel like a goddess.

Summer Ideas For A Baby Beauty

School's out for summer! Are you babysitting or hanging out with an ultra-girly toddler? I've got some fun beauty ideas to keep the budding beauty-nista in your life busy and beautiful during lazy summer days.
  1. Small Starlet. There's nothing more fun then playing with your hair. While you're getting gorgeous for a night out, wrap a few velcro rollers (no heat!) on your little one and make her feel like a superstar!
  2. Flower Girl. Every girl has fond memories of braiding in their childhood. It's a fantastic summer pastime and evokes the lazy days of summer. Now, accessories will help kick up your plaits a notch. Create flower garlands and interweave ribbons into your Beauty's braids for a bohemian and tousled effect.
  3. Manicured Mademoiselle Keep the little miss in your life polished and pretty with a subtle manicure. File and buff nails lightly and apply a coat of clear or sheer pink lacquer for sweet tips. You can go for a bright summer shade too, but make sure you have mom's permission first.
  4. Solar Chick. It's never to early to learn about SPF! Teach her about sun protection and why it's so important to use sunscreen every day. If you have a baby-friendly SPF on hand, apply a patch test on her hand to show her how sunscreen blocks dangerous rays. Remember, always use a physical blocker (with Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide) on kids because chemical sunscreens can irritate their sensitive skin.
  5. Fruity & Feminine. Need a summer beauty activity that doesn't involve TV or the Internet? Look to your kitchen, a haven for all-things DIY! Use seasonal fruits for a myriad of beauty ideas. For a fruity edible mask, mix your favorite fruit with olive oil, yogurt, and oatmeal and apply a thin layer on skin. You can also use dark berries (rich in antioxidants) as an all-natural custom lip stain on your baby Beauty. Crush up a blackberries or dark cherries and dab on the center of her lips for a just-bitten pout. After, you both can enjoy a healthy berry snack! She'll feel glam, and you avoid the sugar influx of Kool-Aid. When health meets beauty, it's a win-win.

Save or Splurge: Moisturizer

Beauties, do you ever wonder if you should spend some extra money and splurge on an expensive lipstick or moisturizer for its imagined superpower and then wonder if it actually works? I've often had the same quandary with myself. I'm dying to buy an expensive bottle of perfume or jar of cream not only because it would look beautiful sitting on my dresser but also because of the magical smoothing, firming, luscious smelling powers I imagine it to contain. It was around the time that my current jar of an expensive cream ran out that I decided to try out an inexpensive brand and see if it had the same effects. For my road test the bargain option was Inexpensive cream. The first thing I noticed was that the the expensive has a very very thick, almost oil-based consistency which really feels like it's penetrating the skin and also has a delicious flowery smell that makes me feel like I'm in a spa. In comparison the inexpensive was a little less heavy but still absorbed beautifully into the skin and didn't leave any greasiness or that gross wet feeling, which I hate.
After three days of product testing, I came to the conclusion that both creams do a fantastic job of maintaining the elasticity and texture of my skin, and that the idea of a "miracle" cream was in my head. The expensive cream is super luxurious and beautiful to use and if you have the opportunity, I would definitely save up and splurge on a jar to use under your eyes and on sensitive areas of your skin to make you feel extra special. If that's not an option, the inexpensive cream will also work wonders to keep you looking beautiful while saving you some serious cash.

Best Waterproof Mascaras

Summer can prove fatal for your mascara. Sweat, the beach and the pool can all cause even the most loyal mascara to smudge, flake off and run down your face. I know how frustrating makeup-induced panda eyes can be, so here are the top 3 waterproof mascaras that won't let you down—even when you hit the waves!

1 Urban Decay Cannonball Waterproof Mascara

Wende Zomnir, the co-founder of Urban Decay, really wanted a mascara that no water could budge, so she tested this formula on a wild trek through waterfalls, over streams and through the jungle. The end result—waterproof perfection. It's also smudge- and flake-free!

2 SENSAI by Kanebo 38ºC Lengthening and Separating Mascara

This Japanese tubing formula only washes off in very warm water—water in a temperature above 38ºC to be exact. The mascara's pricey, but its ability to build up and stay put (without clumping) is incredible. If you keep applying coats, it'll look like you have false lashes on! And if the water- and melt-proof formula can withstand Japan's humid summers, it will work anywhere.

3 L'Oréal Voluminous Million Waterproof

The super thick brush on this wand is made of two different lengths so that even those tiny lashes at the inner and outer corners of your eyes will get a coating of this volumizing formula. The rich formula really stays put for hours and is allergy tested, so even beauties with sensitive eyes can use it. A great drugstore option for summer!

Katy Perry's Minx Nails at the MTV VMAs!

Katy Perry not only scooped up the Video of the Year Award for her hit song "Firework" at the MTV VMAs that night, she made no less than three outfit changes, showed off some pink hair, and debuted yet another custom Minx Nail design applied by nail stylist Kimmie Kyees. In honor of her five hit singles from her album "Teenage Dream," each nail featured a mini record with either "Katy" or "Perry" written on them against a black and white checkerboard background. Katy loves a customized nail, and recently featured her husband Russell Brand's face on each of her fingertips.

Best Beauty Looks from the MTV VMAs

Who had the best beauty looks at the MTV VMAs? Celebrities from Britney to Beyoncé (who announced she's pregnant!) walked the red carpet and some rocked some seriously great makeup. Here are some favorite looks from the night.

Katy Perry showed off some wild, purple-pink hair at the VMA's, and took home most of the awards! I love that she changed outfits no less than three times, and even matched her parasol to her outfit.

Selena Gomez continued her red carpet winning streak with a stunning, black lace, Julien McDonald dress. She offset her gown with dark smoky eyes, rosy cheeks, and a lilac manicure.

Beyoncé had the biggest surprise of the night, she announced she's pregnant! The music superstar glowed with a side ponytail and bronzed cheeks.

Soulful singer Adele showed off beautiful curls and super long lashes at the VMA's. Nude lipstick keeps the focus on her beautiful eyes.

Smoky eyes seemed to be the look of the night at the awards ceremony and Kim Kardashian (or is she Kim Humphries now?) made them smokier than usual.

Would You Use Hair Perfume?

Ever thought about trying a hair perfume? Regular fragrances that you spray onto your body can wear off or react with sunlight, causing damage to your skin. Specially formulated fragrances that you spritz onto your hair not only last longer (your hair absorbs scent more than your skin does) but ensures that a waft of your perfume is released every time you flick your ponytail.

1 Aquolina Pink Sugar Hair Perfume

This vanilla-and-caramel-scented spray is formulated with special silicones that protect your hair from UV rays and leave it silky soft. To get an extra day out of your hair before washing, use dry shampoo and hair perfume to keep it smelling sweet.

2 Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Bomblicious Hair Mist

This hair mist smells just like the regular Flowerbomb fragrance, only a little lighter, and it won't dry out your locks. Spray it into the air and walk underneath to let it settle gently on top of your head.
I would love to use this.

3Pure & Petal Summer Passion Hair Fragrance

This summery-scented hair perfume is alcohol- and silicone-free, so it's great for colored or treated hair. And because your tresses absorb scent easily, the fragrance will last all day long.
