It's the day before the big interview that will land you the job of your dreams—and panic sets in. You've chosen the shoes and the outfit, and your resumé ready to go but what makeup should you wear? We know how tough it can be to make the right choices, especially when different work environments, hair types, and transportation methods (sweating your made-up face off when walking to an interview is never a good look!) are considered. Here are our top five tips for looking your best.
1 Base: Keep It Simple
When going for a new position, it's important to look fresh and clean, and be a good representation of how you will look every day in the office. Starting with a good base foundation or tinted moisturizer is crucial. A fresh, clear face will always make a good first impression. Don't pile on the bronzer or blush. In this case, less is more.
2 Nails: The Right Color for You
When applying for a job in an office such as a bank, a simple nail color is more suitable. Unless you’re applying for a position in a creative industry, skip the latest neon nail color or appliqué palm trees.
3 Eyes: What's Safe to Use
Just like your nails, eye makeup should be kept simple. A soft, neutral brown or taupe eyeshadow paired with mascara and a light application of eyeliner is perfect. If brown isn't your color, wear something that looks natural against your skin tone. Smoky eyes or tons of eyeliner are not work-appropriate.
4Backup: What to Take with You
Walking in warm weather or sweating on the subway as you head to the interview can wreck havoc on your makeup. Pack a small makeup bag with blotting papers, deodorant, and a small bottle of perfume. The blotting papers will help to absorb any excess oil on your face.
5 Lips: Gloss or Lipstick?
Whether you're a gloss girl or lipstick lover, you can wear either to an interview. If you're applying somewhere a little more formal, stick with a rosy pink or natural-looking lipstick rather than that burnt orange you were showing off on the weekend. With gloss, less sparkle is more appropriate for the office.
