Wash Up! How to Clean Makeup Sponges

Sponges are an essential tool for any kit or makeup table, and keeping them clean (and sanitary!) is absolutely essential. Proper cleaning not only helps prevents breakouts and the spreading of germs, but also ensures that your sponge will work flawlessly every time. You can use soap or a mild shampoo with your sponges, or try one of two blendercleansers.

SOLID SOAP METHOD

The blendercleanser solid soap comes in a resealable dish, which makes it easy to transport even on planes (you can throw it in your bag, since it isn’t liquid). Because the bar sits on a slotted surface inside the dish, it has space to breathe.
TO USE: Dip your sponge in water and then rub into the soap. Get a good lather going (it feels kind of nice!) and be sure to work the product out of the sponge. When finished, rinse the sponge thoroughly with water and allow it to air dry. Remember to drain excess water out of the soap dish before resealing.

LIQUID SOAP METHOD

The liquid blendercleanser comes in an easy-to-use pump bottle, and also doubles as a makeup brush cleaner.
TO USE: Wet the sponge and then press down on the pump at the top of the bottle—this releases cleanser into the sponge. Use your fingers to lather up and get all the product out, then rinse and allow to air dry. Easy!
