favorite looks from the Golden Globes

The 2013 Golden Globes left as big an impression on us as we left on our couches after spending the evening glued to our TV sets. Awards shows are like football games for glamour junkies, and we love to get together for a night of primping and poring over the star-studded event. The ceremony, the pre-coverage, the post-coverage, and not to mention, an hours worth of late night gossip shows had us reeling from Hollywood glamour and, of course, we couldn’t help but notice a plethora of trends on the red carpets.
Looking past the obvious repeats of red and black gowns, updo’s, and dangling earrings, we found some inspiring innovations amid the Golden Globe girls.

Retro style was all the rage on the red carpet. Tina Fey, Zooey Deschanel, and Sienna Miller looked prim and proper, their styling straight out of the ‘50s and ‘60s. Tina’s arrival look was pin-up perfect in a curve-hugging dress and an understated bouffant. Similarly, Zooey worked a sweetheart neckline with a single strand of pearls and her signature sweeping ‘60s bangs. Sienna, on the other hand, donned a modest two-piece ‘60s floral frock and clean, swept back hair reminiscent of Grace Kelly.

Winding back the clock even further, the art deco trend was even more popular. Stars like Nicole Kidman, Jodie Foster, and Zosia Mamet arrived draped in gowns replete with deco detailing, and others arrived with styling straight out of the 1930s. Helen Mirren’s gown included arty egyptian detailing and her wavy bob seemed fit for a flapper. If we had a nickle for every star who showed up with Veronica Lake-esque waves, we’d have enough money to hire Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, and Rachel Weisz for our next post Globe party. On the flip side, Amy Adams’ finger waves and fishtail dress combo couldn’t have been more fitting for the occasion.

While we loved all the looks we saw Sunday night, the one we were most enamored by was Lucy Liu’s fresh, Versailles-like orchard ensemble. Liu looked radiant in a printed Carolina Herrera gown paired perfectly with a fishtail braid and a fresh pink lip. Though the look was controversial, we can’t help but approve. It conjures up images of Marie Antoinette, the French countryside, and lovely dreams of Spring.
