Fall 2011 Nail Trends

The rich textures of fabrics such as chiffon, tweed, jacquard, and velvet inspired this dark, jewel-toned aesthetic. Jason Wu's baroque burgundy nails (left) perfectly complemented the gilded metallic navy eye, while lavender tuxedo manicures at Ruffian (top right) were fit for a prince. CND introduced 22 unique manicures at The Blonds show (bottom right). These incredibly theatrical designs were inspired by Eastern opulence and featured hand-placed Swarovski crystals and crushed glass.

Sandstone shades reminiscent of sedimentary rock pair with a deep nautical navy for an unexpected take on the earthen manicure. The half-moon shapes and French crescent tips seen at 3.1 Philip Lim (left) and Monique Lhuillier (bottom right) combine the rugged rosy brown hue of the desert terrain with a fresh and inky blue. I fell in love with this.

Neon colors step to the side as softer tones bring an element of serenity to the colder season. Shades of latte, iridescent lavender, and icy sage seen at Isaac Mizrahi (left), Catherine Maladrino (topright) and Costello Tagliapietra (bottom right) remind us of our favorite fall comforts. Glosses and shiny finishes take a break in favor of a matte, washed-out effect. Pair these tranquil hues with your softest knitwear and relax.
